No fewer than 244 vessels have been intercepted by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) over their alleged involvement in illegal activities on Nigeria’s territorial waters in the past two years.

The vessels were alleged to have been involved in sea robbery, illegal bunkering and other criminal activities in Nigeria’s maritime domain. This was disclosed by the Director-General, NIMASA, Mr. Patrick Akpobolokemi, in a speech he presented at the ground-breaking ceremony of the Maritime University (NMU) and NIMASA Dockyard at Okerenkoko in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State.
